FAQ: What is Hashing? Is it really just an
excuse to drink beer?
Hashing is a non-competitive cross
country run through varied terrain. Based upon the old-time British
children's game of "Hounds & Hares," Hashers follow a trail conceived and marked by
the "hares." After an appropriate head start, the remaining
"hounds" give chase as they seek out the (sometimes circuitous) trail.
At the end, ceremonial beer is drunk, songs are sung, and stories are swapped.
According to our fellow hashers in
Spokane, Hashing is to competitive running what slo-pitch is to major league
baseball. If you enjoy good times and a few (or many, many) cold beers, you're
hasher material. While it is quite harmless fun, it would be
inappropriate to bring your children, unless they are of drinking age.
Hashing has a
colorful history. In 1938,
the "Mother Hash" was started by British ex-pats in Kuala Lampur, Malasia. Today
there are over 1400 hashes around the world. You will find at least one hash in
almost every major city on the planet. contact us
